How many countries are blocking child pornography on the Internet?

Answer

Within the CIRCAMP group and cooperating countries, there are currently 8 countries that are participating in the Law Enforcement initiative to prevent access to child sexual abusive material. This number is expected to rise in the near future as more countries have expressed an interest in this type of crime prevention. The CIRCAMP countries currently operating a blocking system against the desimmination of child sexual abuse material are:

Denmark, Finland, Italy, Malta, Norway and Sweden.

CIRCAMP cooperate and share information with Switzerland and New Zealand on the same terms as CIRCAMP countries.

In addition there are several initiatives in other countries that have the same aim, like in the UK where the Internet Watch Foundation are providing the ISPs with addresses that contain child sexual abusive material for them to block. The Internet Watch Foundation works in tandem with CEOP, the UK Law Enforcement member of CIRCAMP.

Many countries also have filters that not only block this kind of material, but also other types of information. Such initiatives are not a part of the CIRCAMP cooperation, as CIRCAMP only deals with child sexual abusive material.
